Air December 26, 2001

Thank you Mark, and good morning everyone. I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, I can assure you that I did! It’s hard to imagine that we are to the end of another week already. My dad was right. Time is a speeding locomotive that slows down for no one. At this time next year, we’ll already be in to 2002 and I’ll be a few days away from my 20th anniversery on this job. More year end thoughts in a minute. First I want to remind everyone of the upcoming Ag Computing Expo slated for January 12th at the Geary County 4-H/Sr. Citizens Building. No matter what level of ag computing user you are, there will be something here for you. And if Santa Claus brought you one of those pda’s also known as Palm Pilots or palm computers, then there will be a special presentation just to show you that it can be more than a high priced address book, calendar and solitaire player! You do need to get your reservation into the Extension Office to make sure we’ve got lunch for you. We are back open today through the end of the week and the same schedule next week. Give us a call at 238-4161 or stop by the Extension Office at 119 East 9th to register.

For another 7 days we are still in that holiday season and we’ve got a big holiday coming up early next week. There’ll be a lot of merriment going on next Monday and Tuesday, and to be right frank, there’ll be a lot of amateur drunks out on the road. First of all, make sure that you’re not one of them, and secondly be aware that every car coming at you could have an impaired driver behind the wheel. Assume nothing, always have an escape plan, and don’t do anything to make anyone think that you may be impaired. That means coming to a complete stop at every stop sign. It means allowing a little extra room between you and the car ahead of you. It means using your turn signals and waiting until that car is past the intersection before you start pulling out. Let’s all start 2002 off on the right foot. Finally this morning, a brief moment of reflection. 2001 will be a year, like it’s cousin 60 years ago, that will remain burned in everyone’s mind for eternity. It marks the end of my 20th year on the job and while I don’t think I’ll be here another 20 years, I hope to be hear a while longer. 2002 will be an exciting year for me, more on that in coming weeks, and I hope it’ll be an exciting year for you as well. Maintain a positive outlook on life and lead on into 2002 with that American spirit!

This is Chuck Otte, Geary County Extension Agent, with Ag Outlook 2001, wishing all of you a Happy New Year!
