Air July 3, 2002

Thank you Gary, and good morning everyone. Wheat harvest has pretty well run its course, so Mother Nature, you can let it rain again.... soon hopefully! If the dry weather continues for very much longer we are going to have to start looking at a lot of changes in plans. We may have to look at ammoniating wheat straw for extra forage for cows. We may be looking at taking corn fields and harvesting them for silage, hay or even grazing the standing corn. We may have to look at starting to pull cattle off pasture much earlier than anticipated. Even intensive double stocked pastures may have to be depopulated early. Hopefully, we’ll soon get enough rain to do some good and we won’t have to worry about these issues. If we don’t get that rain, we’ll be discussing them in more detail in the near future.

Well, tomorrow is the 4th of July. The 226th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. I’ve always had strong patriotic feelings and several experiences in recent months have only served to intensify my flag waving tendencies. I feel that the Declaration of Independence was one of the most profound writings that has ever impacted this planet. And for the rest of my program this morning I’m going to read the first few sentences of that wonderful document. I hope you’ll take the time to find a copy of it and read it in it’s entirety soon! In Congress, July 4, 1776, The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America.

WHEN in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation.

WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness -- That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed.
